We're mums. Our children are at school and nursery now but we remember when they were very little how important it is to have a rest when you're 24/7 responsible for a baby or toddler. We started Walk-a-bye Baby to help out mums and dads because we know that little ones tend to enjoy fresh air in a pram or buggy, and this can be the perfect opportunity for the parent to have a break. We have experience caring for children and have PVGs, insurance and first aid training. If there's a route you would like us to take, we'll go with that. If you don't mind where we walk, we'll suggest a route. We will be sensible and safe when out walking and if you have any areas or situations you want us to avoid, we're fine with that. And if you want us to nip into the chemist or corner shop for some supplies then that's fine too.
Where do we start? Maybe because you're exhausted and you just need a rest. Or how would you like to go for a hair appointment and not have to worry about getting a baby to sleep next to you in the salon? We can meet you at the hairdresser and take your baby for a walk from there. Colicky baby soothed by walks? Let us be the ones to push the buggy for a change. Need to get a few chores or some work done? It's amazing how much you can get done in an hour. The list is endless.
If you'd like us to use your pram or buggy, that's great. If it's more convenient, we can bring a buggy right to your door to save you getting yours out. We have a machine-washable cocoon suitable for young babies and it'll always be freshly washed. If your baby is older, we'll always have a freshly washed footmuff in the buggy.
Nope! You can use the service as a one-off or a regular appointment.
Not a problem. In this case we'd use your buggy so it's set up for your children.
Unless the pavements are unsafe due to ice, snow or flooding, then we'll be there. Please make sure your child is dressed appropriately for the weather.
You can pay by bank transfer before the walk or with cash on the day. When you book your first walk, the registration fee will also be due and this can also be paid by bank transfer or cash on the day of the appointment.
Roughly speaking, we cover south and west Edinburgh: Newington, Marchmont, Blackford, Morningside, Polwarth, Merchiston, Bruntsfield, Craiglockhart, Fairmilehead, Colinton, Balerno, Currie, Juniper Green, Corstorphine, Cramond and Blackhall. Where the pick-up point is in an area with parking charges, the cost for parking will be added to your bill.
We're not. We've been in touch with them and as we are keeping our service to a maximum of 2 hours per day, they have advised that we don't need to register. As the business grows, it's something we'll be considering. Babysitters are not required to register with the Care Inspectorate so the 2 hour limit does not apply when babysitting.
